The Artist Behind the Resin

Updated: Aug 15, 2023

Hi everyone,

I thought it would be a nice idea to introduce myself, so you can meet ‘The Artist behind the Resin’.

I am a Midwife by profession and currently lecturing and researching in a North East University, supporting our next generation of Midwives through their undergraduate and masters programmes. When I’m not working, studying, or causing mischief with my love of adrenaline activities, I create art.

Art has always been a passion of mine from a very young age, where I would spend my days sketching or creating crafts, especially around Christmas time, it’s simply my favourite time of year! I then studied art however, it soon almost became a non-existent hobby, as the demands of life in general took priority.

That was until February 2021, when I made the decision to rekindle my love of art. In an effort to leave the work laptop to one side during weekends, I decided art would be my sanctuary once again however, this time I was going to have so much more fun with it!

Moving away from my ‘serious’ art of sketching and use of water colours, I decided to return to using resin, a medium I hadn’t used in over 25 years! However, this time I decided to merge homeware and resin, and so the cheese and charcuterie resin board was born!

I hadn’t anticipated my cheese boards being so popular, and so, now is the right time to publish my website so customers can buy direct (which also means it is so much easier for me, keeping orders in order!). From there, I decided to create some additional homeware products, coasters and wall art, both in the medium of resin and alcohol inks (which are vibrant and a lot of fun!).

My inspiration simply comes from the beauty of the County I live, Northumberland. You will find four main designs across my ranges; Midnight Moonlight; Cosmic; Ocean and Volcanic Sunrise, all of which reflect the peace, tranquility and beauty of my local beach, shimmering sunrises and the starry night sky- we are simply a fabulous County and I am so proud to be a Northumbrian!

Due to my artwork being a hobby, I can only work on commissions and custom products at the weekend, so please bear this is mind when ordering. Also, each cheese and charcuterie board, and each piece of art work can take many days to create from start to finish and is therefore labour intensive. However, this is reflected within the beauty of the product, within the wood grain and artwork meaning each piece truly is unique and one-of-a-kind.

You can see my boards featured at Kielder Tower Knowe Visitor Centre, at Northumberland Nature Park as well as some commissioned pieces, please take a look if you’re visiting.

Please take the time to explore my website, and please contact me if you would like a board or coasters custom made, with a colour palate of your choice.

I will attempt to blog every now and then! Until then, adios 💞
